Bermondsey Street Festival 2008

After the success of the festival in 2007, we are happy to announce the date of the festival 2008 as September 13th. If you would like to help out then please email us

Gallery1 This Saturday’s Bermondsey Street Festival has plenty of features and activities that will open your eyes, ears and taste buds to the diverse range of wonderful local products and talent in this buzzy and creative London quarter.

This historic part of London has dozens of interesting buildings and stories to be revealed to both residents and visitors. To appreciate this join one of the Blue Badge guided walks at 1.30pm and 3pm. If you have a bike Southwark Cyclists are organizing free bike rides at 1pm and 3pm, and for those thinking of using their bikes more get a bike check up with the Dr Bike service. Return to Tanner Street Park and enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake baked by locals.

If you need something more substantial there are food stalls from local restaurants such as The Garrison and Village East, as well as Greek pastries and other snacks. Local bar The Hide will be serving London beer and cocktails from locally made gin.

The stage will feature talented local singer Nigel of Bermondsey (formerly of ‘90s group Gay Dad), and Paul Taylor with his trombone poetry, amongst others.

The stall area is packed with locally made articles including clothes, jewellery, glassware, scarves, shoes and cushions. To bring these talents to life a Festival fashion show will weave its way through the Park at 1pm. This new activity will be watched with interest by Festival Patron Zandra Rhodes who opens the Festival at 12.00 noon. This is the real start to London Fashion Week!

It’s not just human talent that will be celebrated. Between 2pm and 4pm it’s the turn of the local canine community for whom a dog show will be judged by TV vet Marc Abraham.

In the evening the first outdoor film performance at the new Bermondsey Square development will take place at 8pm with the Rocky Horror Picture Show - complete with original cast member Patricia Quinn. The shadow cast is on at 7.30, with entertainment from 6pm.
